That Time of Year Again

It’s hard to believe that we have already been back in school for five weeks!  We are already about a third of the way through the semester and midterm tests are under way.  Honors Student Board plans events throughout the semester and at this time of year they are a great way for students to relieve midterm stress.  Just last week HSB hosted free ice skating for all students.  This yearly event is always a big hit and a lot of fun.  What students don’t realize is that the members of HSB have just as much fun planning these opportunities.

As an executive board we have meetings once a week to plan all sorts of great events.  We have socials such as dances and at the same time we have intellectual activities like seminars on personal statements as well as trivia contests.  It doesn’t even stop there.    We also put together opportunities for students to volunteer within the community.  It is great to work with the team to generate ideas, plan all of the specifics and eventually watch our work evolve into successful events that students enjoy.

One great thing about planning these events is that anyone can help.  All honors students are technically members of the board and each member is invited to join our meetings.  We also open event planning committees to students.  Helping with HSB is a great way for students to get involved with the program when they don’t have a ton of free time.  It is also a great way to see how the group functions in case they are planning on applying someday.

All sorts of great events are currently in the works.  Last Friday evening we had the FHP retreat and soon we will be playing night games and hosting a trivia contest.  Before you know it, Fall Ball will be here.

Although it is once again time for midterms, it is always time for fun with HSB!
