Surviving Finals with Help from Secret Study Spots on Campus!

Happy Finals Week everybody! You’ve almost survived another semester. While it has been filled with both the good and the bad, it’s been 15 weeks, and frankly, that’s a long time. That’s 15 weeks of the same schedule, 15 weeks of the annoying kid you sit next to in class every day, 15 weeks of zumba classes, and 15 weeks of choosing Abstract Algebra over sleep. Whatever you’ve been doing for the last 15 weeks, I’m sure that you’re ready for a break. Although I can’t give you permission to run away to Hawaii quite yet, I will share some of the best places to “get away from everything.” Hopefully some of these will help you survive until summer!

1)      The Carver bathrooms. Unfortunately, this one is for the ladies only, but it is one of my favorite places on campus, mostly because I live in Carver. Every girl’s bathroom in Carver has an awesome extra room that nobody is ever in! Whoever designed this building totally understood the need to get away! I would highly recommend them whether you need to study, take a nap, or have a me party. Hint: the higher the floor you’re on, the comfier the couch!

You could almost live here!

2)      Under your bed. Although this is much easier when you have a loft, any bed will suffice! Set up shop, and bring plenty of provisions, depending on how long you plan to stay. If people don’t understand, you may have to post signs to help them realize that they are welcome to hang out under their own bed, but not yours!

3)      Anywhere that has green grass. No matter how cute your dorm room is, staring at the same four walls all semester can really sap your creativity! Pack up your stuff (anything from a backpack of homework to a full out camping pack, depending on your intent), and stake your claim to a piece of ground. Instant joy!

4)      The Secret Garden in Food Sciences. I’m going to go ahead and divulge one of my favorite secrets at Iowa State: THERE IS A SECRET GARDEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOOD SCIENCES BUILDING! It seriously looks like it is part of Narnia. This is no ordinary “get away “location; it should be saved for only the most desperate situations!

Check it out!

With this information in mind, good luck for finals week! Keep your chin up, a stiff upper lip, and your nose to the grindstone. You’re gonna do great! And remember, by June 1st you’re going to be missing Iowa State like crazy and longing for the comforting routines and awesome weekly traditions from the semester!
