One of my favorite weeks of the entire school year (other than the now deceased VEISHEA – RIP) is starting this Thursday. My love of this week started as a sophomore when I decided on a whim to apply for International Student Council’s International Week planning committee. International Week, which I had not experienced as a freshman, turned out to be one of the most eye-opening things of my college career. I got to see a new side of the Iowa State from the international students that come from over 100 countries and make up around 10% of the total student body. Now that I’m serving on the exec board, I love it EVEN MORE. Come hang out with me at our events over this next week to experience cultures from around the world, meet awesome people, eat food, and generally have a lovely time:
- Food Night: Thursday, November 13th, from 7 to 9 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Challenge your taste buds for $5 by eating food from all over the world, cooked by Iowa State student organizations representing their countries.
- Dance Night: Friday, November 14th, from 8 to 10 in South Ball Room in the Memorial Union. This is an event where you can break out your best dance moves, and learn new dance moves from around the world to impress your friends with at the next party you attend. The $2 entrance fee will go directly to the children of Kawsara Fall School in Senegal West Africa, where one of our members is from.
- International Bazaar: Tuesday, November 18th, from 6 to 9 in the Campanile Room in the Memorial Union. Stop by to experience henna, international games, traditional clothing that you can try on, languages, and prizes. And the best part is that it’s totally freeeeeee.
- International Night: Thursday, November 20th, from 6 to 10 in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. First reason to come: free food. Second reason to come: performances from just about every international dance or music group on campus. Third reason to come: everyone is going to be looking fabulous.
