Ever wonder what Honors students do during the summer? Instead of doing “traditional” blog posts this summer, Honors Ambassadors and students will be taking you into their summer routines via photos. Next up is Anna Wilcox, who is gamely putting up with being in Italy for the first part of her summer:
The view from our Roman home for 4 weeks; we stay in the Iowa State College of Design studios.
The classic morning cappuccino. As you can see, this one was too good to get a picture of before I drank the whole thing.
Once or twice a week, we travel to the Food and Agricultural Organization to meet with the leaders of our projects. The 11 of us are split into 3 teams and our projects focus on smallholder agriculture, green value chains, and food waste.
On the way to and from work, and all over Rome, there are ruins everywhere. We stumbled across the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and various other ancient ruins that I don’t know anything about.
For lunch I usually get a pastrami sandwich from a little shop just down the street from where we live. This is by far the best pastrami sandwich, maybe in the world. I can’t emphasize that enough. I have spent a ridiculous amount of money on these tasty sandwiches and I have no shame.
The rest of the day consists of working on our projects, exploring, drinking wine, and eating copious amounts of gelato. Besides our day to day work, we have also been able to visit the beach, spend a day in Florence, and spend a weekend in Tuscany.
The real reason you go to Italy
The Coliseum is right behind my head.
