We asked First-Year Honors Program students to tell us a little about their first official week as Iowa State students…here’s what they said! Here is part one of the 2015 responses (and the ones from 2014 and 2013, too).
My first week as an official Cyclone is quickly winding to an end and I must say, it was more fun than I could have ever imagined! The FHP picnic on Sunday was a fantastic way to start off the week. Connecting with other freshmen, eating Hickory Park (an Ames staple!), and of course, warming up my athletic skills (which don’t really exist) with some intense relay games were the best possible way to begin my ISU journey!
Looking forward to the rest of the year!

My first week has been great! I really love all my classes and professors. My favorite spot on campus is the Lagomarcino courtyard. It’s very peaceful! I haven’t been to Caribou yet and that’s probably a good thing 🙂 I’m looking forward to the honors retreat in October!

Ally (another FHP student) and I found a great tree on central campus to sit under while studying!

I’m an engineering undecided major, so most of my other classes are very rigid and strict. I enjoy the comfortable atmosphere, small group, and open attitude of my Honors Seminar! It is fun, and a necessary foil to the rest of my schedule.

I had a lot of fun at both the FHP kickoff and the ice cream social. This first week was a bit stressful getting everything organized, but I feel much more prepared for this coming week! I am enjoying my classes, while also trying new things around campus. Friday I played in a volleyball tournament, went rock climbing, and played bingo at ISU After Dark! Saturday I had the opportunity to attend a volleyball game with President and Mrs. Leath along with another President’s Leadership Class student. This was my first Cyclone sporting event, and they won! It was so much fun. 🙂 I am getting more comfortable with living on campus, and am so excited for the many opportunities and adventures that are soon to come!

My first day of classes was exciting as I set out on my new adventure as a Cyclone. Oh, and I even saw the albino squirrel! Here’s some Honors students on their “first day of 13th grade”!
