The Madness This March

by Allye Bodholdt

As February draws to a close and we near the month of March, we approach one of my favorite times of the year. It ranks right up there with Christmas, my birthday, Thanksgiving, and summer vacation…March Madness! Every spring I look forward to the conference tournaments, Selection Sunday, filling out my bracket, and watching the unbelievable upsets, and as Cyclone fans, I think we have even more to be excited about this season.

The Cyclone women are playing their best basketball of the season at the time when it matters most. While post-season play may have seemed unlikely just weeks ago, a five game win streak to end the regular season, including an upset of No. 6 Texas on the road, has changed all that. With the career of Seanna Johnson, one of the best Cyclone women’s basketball players coming to a close, March looks to be another special month for the Cyclone women!

The Cyclone men are also playing their best basketball heading into March! Like the women, they are riding a 5 game win streak into the last week of the regular season. With a 6-1 record thus far, the month of February has proven to be just as lucky for the men, as they saw wins over No. 9 Baylor and No. 3 Kansas on the road. With one of the best senior classes in Cyclone basketball history leading the way, the sky is the limit for the men come March!

Given how great the month of February was for the Cyclones, I am even more excited for the craziness that is March Madness this year. With both the Cyclone men and women playing so well, this March could prove to be something special!
